AC Mechanic Arrested in Tamil Nadu for Luring, Attempting to Molest Teenager

A man has been arrested in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli under the POCSO Act for allegedly attempting to molest a teenage girl. The victim is a 17-year-old girl who had recently completed her schooling. The accused, identified as Matheswaran (21), an AC mechanic from Ramanathapuram, allegedly befriended the girl on Instagram.

After staying in constant contact, the girl went missing from her home in Tirunelveli four days ago. Her parents filed a missing person report with the Melapalayam police, who launched an investigation.

The investigation revealed that Matheswaran had taken the girl to Ramanathapuram, where he allegedly tried to molest her.

The accused has since been arrested under the POCSO Act, and a further investigation is underway.

In another incident, a67-year-old woman, R. Samiyathal, who lived alone in a farmhouse in Namakkal district, was murdered by unidentified assailants on Sunday. According to police, Samiyathal had called her son in Coimbatore and daughter in Maniyanoor on Sunday morning, informing them she had been stabbed by two individuals.

Neighbours rushed to help, and she was taken to Thiruchengode Government Hospital before being shifted to a private facility in Coimbatore, where she succumbed to her injuries.

As per reports, no cash or jewellery was found missing from the house. Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and collecting fingerprints from the crime scene. Motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained

Murders of elderly persons residing alone in farmhouses have become a recurring pattern in the western region of Tamil Nadu. Similar incidents were earlier reported in Palladam, Salem and Erode as well.
