Sitaare Zameen Par Director RS Prasanna Recalls First Call With Aamir Khan: He Made Me Feel Comfortable - EXCLUSIVE
Shubh Mangal Savdhaan director RS Prasanna is all set to spill the magic of his second film, yet another out-of-the-box movie featuring Aamir Khan and specially-abled children titled Sitaare Zameen Par. The film is set to release in theatres only on June 20, 2025. Ahead of the film's release, Prasanna engaged in a heartfelt conversation with Zoom, in which he opened up about the behind-the-scenes journey of his upcoming film with Aamir Khan - one that was anything but easy.
RS Prasanna on observing Aamir Khan's work
In the chat with us, Prasnna credited Aamir Khan as the force that turned the tide. “I told him, it’s rare to find people who believe in themselves. But it’s even rarer to find someone who believes in others. Aamir has always done that - with Ashutosh Gowariker in Lagaan, in Dangal, and several other films,” said Prasanna.
He added that Aamir has a unique knack for supporting unconventional stories and backing first-time or lesser-known filmmakers.
Apna Apna Normal clicked with Aamir: RS Prasanna
The film’s tagline, “Apna Apna Normal,” resonated deeply with Aamir. “That was the story that excited him,” Prasanna shared, noting that once Aamir said yes, the project finally got the validation it needed. “With someone like him, you just need that one ‘yes’ that changes everything.”
Prasanna recalls first call with Aamir
Prasanna also shared a lighthearted and memorable anecdote from his first video call with the superstar. “I was in Chennai, wearing basic home clothes, shorts and a vest, when I got a video call from Aamir. I was torn between changing my clothes or taking the call. I chose the call, and thank God I did,” he laughed.
Despite the star power, Aamir immediately put him at ease. “So I realised that, oh my God, I'm talking to him. He's talking to me about some movie. And I also was admiring the fact that he was making me very comfortable. And within five minutes, it was like talking to a friend. It was not like talking to the Aamir Khan. So then we had a long, almost a day long meeting at his house in Bombay. And again, he made me very comfortable and we discussed about the film. And one of the first things that we spoke about was that we should cast real people with special needs, you know, as the actors.” Prasanna recalled.
