Watch: Nicosia Council Member Touches PM Modi's Feet in Cyprus

In an exemplary gesture of respect, a Cyprus official was seen touching Prime Minister Narendra Modi's feet as she welcomed him at the historic Centre of Nicosia. The Prime Minister appreciated the gesture of the official and appreciated her for being familiar with the Indian culture.
Michaela Kythreoti Mhlapa, who is a Member of Council of Nicosia, touched PM Modi's feet while welcoming him at Nicosia.

In 2023, Papua New Guinea prime minister James Marape touched the feet of PM Narendra Modi while the latter was on an official visit to the island nation.
As PM Modi alighted from the aircraft, Marape bent down to touch his feet.
Papua New Guinea has a tradition of not welcoming anyone post sunset but PM Modi was given a gun salute, a red carpet welcome and was personally welcomed by Marape.
PM Modi Conferred with Cyprus' Highest Civilian Honour
Earlier in the day, PM Modi was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III of Cyprus, the country's highest civilian honour.
In a post on X, PM Modi dedicated the award to the 1.4 billion people of India, and added that it was an award to the trusted "friendship between our nations".
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides conferred the award on the prime minister.
The Order of Makarios III is the senior order of knighthood awarded by the country named after the first President of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III.
Dedicating the award to the 1.4 billion people of India, Modi said it was an award to the trusted India-Cyprus friendship.
