Mumbai Weather: A heavy spell of rain thrashed Mumbai in the early hours of Monday, drenching large parts of the city and leaving several areas waterlogged. Between 2 am and 5 am, South Mumbai and the Western suburbs bore the brunt, prompting the weather department to issue an orange alert for the day.
Fort recorded the highest downpour with 74 mm, followed closely by Bandra (62 mm), Malabar Hill (60 mm), and Lower Parel (58 mm). Other areas that saw significant rainfall include Haji Ali (57 mm), Matunga (56 mm), Grant Road and Santacruz (47 mm each), and Dadar (41 mm), as per a forecaster on X ( formerly Twitter).
Even traditionally less-affected zones such as Andheri (33 mm), Mumbai Central (30 mm), and Borivali (28 mm) saw consistent showers. Worli (26 mm), BKC (25 mm), Versova (23 mm), and Dindoshi (22 mm) also got their fair share of rainfall.
While most of Mumbai was soaked, Thane remained largely dry during the same period, though forecasts suggest it will catch up soon.

Mumbai Weather Forecast: More Rain Expected Throughout the Day

According to the India Meteorological Department’s seven-day forecast, heavy rain is expected to continue today (16 June), particularly over South Mumbai and parts of the Western suburbs. An orange alert has been issued, warning of localised flooding and traffic snarls.
For 17 June, the forecast shows similar conditions, with generally cloudy skies and heavy rain predicted. From 18 June onwards, intermittent rain is expected but with no formal warnings in place, a slight breather, but not quite dry yet.

Which Areas Are on High Alert?

Based on current rain data and short-term predictions, the following localities are under close watch for intense rainfall and waterlogging today:
  • Fort
  • Bandra
  • Malabar Hill
  • Lower Parel
  • Matunga
  • Haji Ali
Citizens in these areas are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay tuned to local updates.

Prepare for a Wet Week Ahead

Though today's heavy spell is the most intense so far this monsoon, forecasts suggest that Mumbai will remain under a generally cloudy sky with intermittent rain throughout the week, as per the IMD's seven-day outlook.
With daily life already disrupted in several pockets of the city this morning, authorities are on alert, and disaster response teams have been placed on standby. Mumbaikars are once again urged to stay cautious, especially in low-lying areas.
