Pune News: Located just 1 to 2 kilometres from Pune International Airport, Viman Nagar is a well-known neighbourhood. Due to its closeness from the airport, residents often see planes flying very low as they take off or land. The constant noise and movement of aircraft above their homes have always made the residents feel uneasy and worried. However, the June 12 Ahmedabad plane crash has triggered deep anxiety, reported Pune Mirror.
Their concerns have grown. An Air India flight with 242 passengers, heading to London, crashed shortly after takeoff. The plane hit a doctors’ hostel near a medical college, and sadly, 241 people lost their lives. It has become one of the deadliest air crashes in recent history and has deeply shocked the nation.
Mannu, an auto rickshaw driver, said, “Because the airport is so close, we see planes flying over all the time. We have always been worried about this, but after the crash in Ahmedabad, people are even more scared. There is a lot of panic now about whether we are safe.”
Captain Mohan, who has lived in the area for many years, offered a different view. He said, “My condolences to all those who died in the crash. I have lived here a long time and I am used to the planes flying above. As a soldier, I know these accidents are very rare—maybe one in a thousand—so people should not be too afraid,” the media report added.
Neelparabha Mukhedkar, another resident, shared her feelings: “I saw the crash on television and it was truly shocking. I live near the airport and I know firsthand how a constant fear lingers in our minds due to the frequent flights overhead. We are all more worried now.”
