Bengaluru: A 37-year-old man was arrested on Sunday night after he allegedly kissed and groped two women in a public park in Pulakeshinagar, east Bengaluru.
The accused, identified as Madan, was tracked down and arrested by the Pulakeshinagar police on the night of June 9, three days after the incident took place.
According to police officials, Madan first approached a woman in the park on the evening of 6 June. He came up to her and said “I am single” and then kissed her forcefully. Shocked and disturbed, the woman immediately shouted, at which point Madan fled the scene.
However, he did not stop there. Just a few metres away, he allegedly similarly targeted another woman, kissing and groping her before she, too, shouted for help. This time, members of the public responded quickly and contacted the police. Madan managed to run away before the police arrived but was eventually traced and taken into custody.
Madan’s parents informed the police that he had quit his job at a private firm after being diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Authorities are now examining his mental health background as part of the investigation, though they have maintained that the actions were criminal in nature and cannot be excused.
Police have confirmed that Madan has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for sexual harassment. He remains in custody.
