Kamalika Guha Thakurta is returning to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 as Gayatri Virani. When the show started in 2000, she was a fresh face who impressed the audience with her grace and ability to sink into the character’s skin, making it look almost tailor-made. Kamalika Guha Thakurta's Kyunki 2 EXCLUSIVE interview

Ahead of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’s 25th anniversary, Kamalika spoke exclusively to Zoom/Telly Talk India about the iconic show returning with the second season. The veteran actress further clarified that the shoot is yet to begin and the actors haven’t blocked their dates for the series.
Kamalika told us, “I will be playing Gayatri again in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2. The show hasn’t gone on floors yet. We don’t have a definite date as yet because pre-production is taking time.”
Talking about reuniting with the cast at Ektaa’s residence, she added, “We relived memories from Kyunki days when we met at Ektaa’s house. In your workplace, you do make relationships. We worked together for 6-7 years and it was a long relationship. It was a goosebump moment when we got the narration. I am looking forward to going on set and starting work. At the moment, this is all I can tell because nothing concrete has been given. Pre-production is going on now.”
She further shared, “It's been 25 years since Kyunki’s first episode. We have a WhatsApp group. We are in touch with each other, and over these years, we have made it a point to meet on July 3 to celebrate. This day means a lot to us because the show gave us so much. We would always remember to mark this day.”
Crediting the show for honing her craft, Kamalika said, “When the show was starting, we were beginners. I was from Kolkata and learnt my craft on the sets of Kyunki. It meant a lot to get a show like Kyunki when I was just starting. Let’s see how the audience takes to this season.”
When asked what her expectations are from the new season, she said, “It was such an iconic show and the new season. I am sure people remember this show for what it is. I am sure we will get some new audience. We will get a younger fanbase, too.”

Change in TV consumption pattern

Sharing her views on the changing audience content consumption pattern, the veteran actress elaborated, “Back in 2000, when Kyunki and Kaun Banega Crorepati started, we had a very loyal audience, but now they are distracted. With options like OTT and YouTube, the audience is spoilt for choice. But television has been able to keep its mark. In all changing times, TV has been a constant. It is still watched in many households. Probably only the upper-middle-class families have gotten into smart TVs, but the majority of India still watches television. It is important to up the game to stay relevant. If the product is not good, the audience will not stay with you.”
