India vs England Live Score: Hello and welcome

Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the second day of the first Test match between India and England from Leeds. After dominating day 1, India would aim to pile on the misery on England. The home team will eye early wicket to restrict India under 450.

Just to recap the first day, Ben Stokes opted to bowl first on a sunny day in Leeds, sticking to the norm but with the sun being out for the past few days and no rain, the purchase pacers generally get in the first session wasn't quite there. The English bowlers didn't help themselves either and we rarely saw wicket-taking opportunities being created. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal looked in the correct mindset from the get-go and made sure India got through that crucial first hour unscathed. Eventually, that opening stand is what paid dividends throughout the day and England have a lot of work to do on Day 2. There is a bit of a debate regarding the weather, with a couple of commentators predicting another dry day, while Ian Ward stating that the forecast has changed and there will be thunderstorms on Days 2 and 3. As a cricket fan, let's hope we get another glorious day of cricket. Right then, with that, Day 1 comes to an end and you can join us on Saturday for Day 2, beginning at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). You can also tune in to our build-up from about an hour before. Cheers!

A total of 144 runs were scored in that final session in 34 overs, with just one wicket falling, showcasing to an extent the vulnerability of the current English attack, but also the conditions which were contrasting to the ones we generally find at Headingley on Day 1 of a Test match. Shoaib Bashir toiled hard from one end but the pacers simply couldn't make inroads, and there just weren't enough edges that were found. Josh Tongue, in particular, showed his inexperience but Woakes did get better towards the end of the day and England will be praying that he can make this second new ball talk at the start of Day 2, if they are to get back into the game.

A final session that England would have thought about winning, especially once Ben Stokes knocked over the centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal right after Tea, but it wasn't meant to be. The Indian skipper, Shubman Gill, already set, was on a mission and he took complete control once Jaiswal departed. Rishabh Pant has a positive record in England and even after a tough stint in the recent IPL, Pant was close to his best in red-ball cricket. The two attacked early on but took a step back when the ball started to reverse a bit. Stokes bowled another excellent spell, which Chris Woakes followed up for a few overs, but that was as good as it got for the hosts.

A day that belonged to India, something which not many would have been sure of coming into this first Test with the retirement of a couple of batting stalwarts and the captaincy change but it seems like England have found it tougher to replace their fabled pacer James Anderson and the injured duo of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, which a talented batting unit has just exploited.

England VS India: SIX!

84.1: Chris Woakes to Rishabh Pant, SIX! TONK! Last over of the day? Who cares? Fielder at the rope? Who cares? Pant doesn't. A length ball, outside off, Rishabh Pant comes down the track and swings it over Zak Crawley over deep square leg. Now, had this gone straight to the fielder, people would have been complaining. That's exactly how Pant plays. Moves to 63 with his second six.

One more over? Ben Stokes is seen hurrying everyone around, trying to get one more over and one more wicket before close. His first wish is granted as we will have another over as the clock just about ticks at 6.30 pm local, but the players are already at their positions, so we will have this over. Whether he gets his second wish or not, is something time will tell.
