Explosions were heard in the northeast of Tehran, according to a report by Reuters citing Iran’s state-run Nour News agency. Israel has confirmed launching pre-emptive strikes on Iran. A senior Israeli military official said that the operation involves dozens of strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear program, long-range missiles, and other military sites across the country. Tehran's main international airport has reportedly suspended all flights.
Israel, Iran, and Iraq have all closed their airspace amid rising tensions, as per reports.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has declared a "special state of emergency" across the country, warning that an attack could occur "in the immediate future."
In a statement following Israel’s preemptive strike on Iran, Katz said, "Following the State of Israel's preemptive strike against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate future.
Therefore, and in accordance with his authority under the Civil Defense Law, Defense Minister Israel Katz has now signed a special order, according to which a special state of emergency will be imposed in the home front throughout the entire State of Israel.
You must obey the instructions of the Home Front Command and the authorities and remain in the protected areas."
An Israeli military official has confirmed that multiple strikes are underway across Iran, targeting facilities linked to its nuclear program and other military sites, as per BBC. The operation reportedly involves dozens of strikes in various parts of the country, focusing on long-range missile systems and nuclear-related infrastructure.
All flights at Tehran’s main international airport have been suspended, according to reports from Iranian state media.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said in a statement that Israel acted unilaterally in launching strikes against Iran and clarified that the United States is not involved in the operation. He emphasized that the administration's top priority is safeguarding American forces in the region.
“President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners. Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel,” Rubio added.
