'Just Like I Got India and Pakistan...': Trump Claims He Will Get Israel And Iran 'Make A Deal'
Amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, former President Donald Trump expressed confidence in his ability to broker peace, similar to his past interventions in conflicts like India-Pakistan and Serbia-Kosovo. He emphasized the importance of trade to foster negotiations, despite ongoing military actions that threaten global oil supplies.

'Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal, just like I got India and Pakistan to make,' Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
As Israel and Iran conflict teetered on the brink of a wider conflict, US President Donald Trump on Sunday claimed he could bring peace between Israel and Iran just as he had helped de-escalate tensions between India and Pakistan earlier this year.
India has repeatedly pushed back against claims made by the United States President on brokering ceasefire, with MEA underlining that trade was never discussed during talks between Indian and US leaders. The Ministry of External Affairs has maintained that the decision to halt military action was reached solely through direct communication between the two countries’ military commanders.
In a post on Truth Social, he wrote, "Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal, just like I got India and Pakistan to make, in that case by using TRADE with the United States to bring reason, cohesion, and sanity into the talks with two excellent leaders who were able to quickly make a decision and STOP!"
The fighting - which entered third day today - is likely to affect global trade, with fears of attacks on critical chokepoints like Kharg Island (Iran's main oil export terminal) and the Strait of Hormuz, through which 21 per cent of the world's LNG and 14 million barrels of crude oil daily pass. This after Israel crossed the red line by attacking South Pars, the world's largest gas field, impacting daily gas output by 12 million cubic meters.
But despite the escalating tension, Trump said peace is still possible. "I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s OK, the PEOPLE understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!" he said.
He highlighted other international conflicts he claimed to have intervened. "During my first term, Serbia and Kosovo were going at it hot and heavy, as they have for many decades, and this long time conflict was ready to break out into WAR. I stopped it,” he said, blaming former President Joe Biden for hurting longer-term prospects with “some very stupid decisions."
He also cited Egypt and Ethiopia’s tensions over the Nile River dam. "There is peace, at least for now, because of my intervention, and it will stay that way!"
Despite escalating Israeli airstrikes and rising casualties in Iran and Israel, Trump said peace is still possible. “I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s OK, the PEOPLE understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!” he concluded.
South Pars is a shared field with Qatar, which is a major global LNG supplier.
Both countries play critical roles in energy exports, and any attack could create ripple effects across Asia, Europe, and global supply chains.
Market Reactions
Oil prices surged as much as 14 per cent on Friday amid as missiles from Iran and Israel criss-crossed each other, settling around $73 (Rs 7000) per barrel.
Iran's President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has vowed a fiercer retaliation, as per The NYT.
Frequent blackouts Cost Iran Economy Around $250 Million a Day
The strike comes as Iran faces one of its worst energy crises in decades. Frequent blackouts due to shortage of gas have cost the economy around $250 million a day, according to the Iran Chamber of Commerce.
This has forced the government to take austerity measures like cutting power to homes and factories. Sanctions and outdated infrastructure have left Iran struggling to meet demand.
"Attacking Iran's energy infrastructure will be a disaster because repairing them will be costly and take time," said Abdollah Babakhani, an Iran energy expert based in Germany.
