Following mass protests in Los Angeles, Chicago became the latest city to erupt in defiance of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown, as over 1,000 demonstrators marched through the Loop, disrupting traffic and demanding an end to deportations.
The protest began outside the immigration court on East Adams Street around 3pm and was followed by a second rally at Federal Plaza at 5:30pm. Eventually, the two groups united, taking to the streets of downtown and bringing parts of Lake Shore Drive to a standstill in what participants called a bold act of resistance.
As chants against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) echoed through the streets, demonstrators condemned President Trump's deportation policies and called for immediate action to protect immigrant communities. Chicago police deployed officers on bicycles to monitor the march and redirect traffic, while maintaining a visible presence along the protest route.
Similar scenes are playing out across the country — from New York and San Francisco to Dallas, Boston, Portland, and Philadelphia — as public outrage intensifies over immigration raids and the military’s involvement in enforcement operations.
Chicago's demonstration marks another flashpoint in a rapidly growing, coordinated movement aimed at standing in solidarity with immigrant families. Protesters described the raids as "unjust and heavy-handed", and vowed to keep pressure on the administration until the deportation drive is halted.
