BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a right-wing political party in India. Formed in 1980 under the political guidance and leadership of two of its most significant leaders, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani, the BJP has been in power under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi since 2014. The party came to power at the Centre for the first time from 1998 to 2004 by forming a coalition of parties called the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). It considers the Indian National Congress (INC) as its principal contender.

Often referred to as the saffron party, the BJP’s ideology strongly adheres to cultural nationalism through social conservatism and integral humanism. The BJP is a cadre-based party. It has close ideological and organisational links to the much older Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliates, known as the Sangh Parivar in common parlance. The BJP aims at establishing a democratic state which guarantees to all citizens, irrespective of caste, creed or sex, "political, social and economic justice, equality of opportunity and liberty of faith and expression".
