Pune News: Four people have died, and one person is reported to be trapped under the debris after a bridge collapsed over the Indrayani River on Sunday. The incident occurred in the Kundmala area of rural Pune. Officials said around 125 people were on the bridge when it gave way, leading to fears that many may have been swept away by the river.
The incident took place in Maval taluka of Pune, near Talegaon Dabhade town, at the popular tourist spot Kundmala. The old bridge over the Indrayani River suddenly collapsed between 3:30-4:30 pm. Soon after the incidents, locals gathered to help those trapped under the iron bridge debris and those who fell into the river. The rescue forces and police were also immediately informed.
"I was deeply saddened to hear the news of the tragedy that occurred when a bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed in Indori, near Talegaon in Pune district. According to preliminary information, 2 people have died in this incident. I pay my heartfelt tribute to them," said the CM on his Twitter (now X) handle.
The tweet written in Marathi added, "The relief work has been immediately accelerated. 6 people have been rescued so far. All the agencies have been ordered to be on alert mode. 32 people were injured, 6 of them are critical. They have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The Divisional Commissioner himself has left for the scene. #Pune"
DCP Vishal Gaikwad (Zone 2, Pimpri Chinchwad) also confirmed the death of two people in the incident. He told PTI, ""An old iron bridge near the lake and waterfall collapsed between 3:30 and 4:30 PM. As per initial information, two people have lost their lives, and 6–7 others have been injured and are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. The NDRF team has arrived and is carrying out rescue operations..."
Pune and its neighbouring places have been experiencing heavy rain in the past few days, leading to significant rise in the water level of the Indrayani river.
Rescue agencies are making every possible effort to save those who may have fallen into the river.
